OUR STORY
SHOOTING TOWARDS FOREVER
Angela Hagerman
a quick note
I can’t even count how many times I’ve been asked how Adam and I met or how Black Moon Media came to life. So, I figured it’s about time I put the short version in writing. If you’re curious about our story, keep scrolling—it’s a good one! But if you’re just here to see what we bring to the table as media pros, go ahead and click here.
No hard feelings, I promise.
In 2020, I walked into what I thought would be a typical photo shoot. My longtime friend was recording his latest album, and I was there to document the session. Little did I know, behind the drum kit was someone who would completely change my life.
Adam was the drummer for the session, and as a seasoned studio and touring musician, he brought a sense of rhythm and energy that was impossible to ignore. Add in that he was also a photographer, well, we had much to discuss. I had brought my youngest son along to the shoot—he’s also a drummer—and we struck up a conversation about parenting gifted kids on the spectrum. There’s something grounding about connecting with someone who understands the challenges and joys of raising kids with unique abilities.
We compared notes on camera gear (of course). I’ve always been a Canon devotee—my gear loyalty runs deep—but Adam, at the time, was a proud Nikon user. We had some good-natured debates about which system was superior, and while I’ve always claimed Canon is king, it’s worth noting Adam eventually crossed over to Team Canon from Nikon. (I like to think I had something to do with that!)
What we didn’t know then was that we were both struggling in our personal lives. I won’t go into detail here, but each of us was in an extremely toxic relationship, silently navigating difficult paths. We connected on social media to keep up with each other’s work, but our lives remained completely separate—at least for the time being.
Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2022. My friend (the same one) was hosting a “Love Stinks” show, and I went to snag some photos for him. Adam was there too, and we naturally fell into conversation. By this point, I had a much larger kit of photography gear, which gave us plenty to talk about. We found ourselves swapping stories and catching up, discovering how much we truly had in common.
That night, we talked about everything—gear related (of course), photography, and a bit about life. At the time, I was dabbling in concert photography— and wanted to soak up as much knowledge as possible from Adam before he went back on tour. He is exceptional with artificial lighting and had years of experience in the music world. What I thought would be a few conversations and tutorials turned into something much more.
As we spent more time together, we realized how much we had in common. Our shared passion for creativity and storytelling brought us closer, but it was our mutual understanding of life’s challenges and resilience that truly connected us.
Today, we’re happily married, running a thriving business together, and creating the life we’ve both dreamed of for so long. It’s funny to think how it all started—two creatives, crossing paths at a shoot, bonding over music, parenting, and camera brands. I finally found my forever, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Here’s to love, creativity, and second chances… and to my longtime friend, Fletcher Christian, who brought Adam and I together.
