RAINY DAY ADVENTURES - A FALL FAMILY SESSION WITH THE GUILLENS

Last weekend, Adam and I had the joy of photographing one of my favorite families, the Guillens—Eddy, Ashley, and their two kids, Lena and Zavi. This family holds a very special place in my heart. Since 2015, when I stepped in last minute to capture Eddy and Ashley’s wedding, I’ve had the privilege of documenting their life together. From shooting Zavi’s birth to our annual family sessions, each year brings new memories to capture.

This year, we planned for a fall family session to capture the season’s gorgeous colors, but nature had its own plans. About a half-hour into the session, a light drizzle set in, and we realized we’d have to cut the session short. Just as I was lining up a shot of the whole family, we felt the rain come down in sheets, and it was time to run! Laughing and soaked, we made a mad dash back to the vehicles. It was one of those chaotic, unscripted moments that somehow captures the spirit of family life—unexpected, full of laughter, and a bit messy.

Even though our session was brief, we managed to get the most beautiful photos. The clouds softened the light, making the colors pop even more vibrantly. The damp leaves shimmered, and the kids’ laughter added a joyfulness that the camera can’t help but pick up. I couldn’t have asked for better clients than Eddy and Ashley, who rolled with every unexpected turn during our session.

Reflecting on this session, I’m reminded of why I love working with families like the Guillens year after year. Photographing them isn’t just about creating beautiful images; it’s about preserving memories. These photos tell their story, full of love, adventure, and the occasional dash through the rain. Each year brings something new, yet the bond they share remains beautifully steady.

As we said goodbye, soaked but smiling, I knew we’d made some unforgettable memories that day. As always, Ashley and I hugged and exclaimed, “Love you, bye!” At the same time of course. Later I got a text instructing me not to retire and not to die because I have to be the one to take their pictures for the rest of their life. I plan on doing my best and I’m definitely already looking forward to seeing what our next session will bring.
